Keeping You and Your Pet Organized

Keeping You and Your Pet Organized

Let’s be real – having a pet can be a hurdle for having an organized, put together space. Just like two-legged children, our four-legged children can cause a mess. Toys, leashes, supplies, oh my!

Especially if you have a small space, it can get chaotic quickly to have a furry friend and their belongings in your space. So, how can you keep yourself tidy and organized, especially in small spaces?

Step One: Being Realistic

Let’s start with a big hurdle you may face in having anyone, pet or otherwise, in your space. It is harder to control your atmosphere! Just like that roommate that refuses to put their dishes away, your four-legged companion is unlikely to positively contribute to the tidiness of your space.

So, the best way to keep your space clutter free might be to store things in inaccessible locations. Instead of your pet having free-range of all their toys, maybe some need to be kept tucked away in a closet. A nice bonus of this is that your pet benefits from novel toys. Switching up what they have access to can be good for them mentally!

Another important part of being realistic is being mindful of what you purchase. Now, I’m not suggesting you dive headfirst into minimalism (unless you think it’s for you). But, it is easy to feel pressure to buy everything you see. Just like parents spoil their little kiddos, you want to treat your paw-sitively adorable companion.

Step Two: Get Clear on Your Plan

In the spirit of not over-buying, keep yourself intentional. What are must haves for you and your pet? Are multiple leashes with different patterns necessary, or just one? Are they likely to use a pet bed, or just skip right to the couch?

In keeping yourself organized, your pet-parenting philosophy comes into play. When and where are toys accessible? What is allowed? Are any spaces off-limits? Maybe it is time for an audit, or even a purge. Consider getting rid of some old toys and upgrading to more long-lasting supplies. Sometimes it pays to spend a little extra if it means better quality!

Step Three: Maintaining The Aesthetics

Now that you know what your expectations are of yourself and your space, it is time to ensure you are keeping it fashionable! There are several ways to make your pet’s belongings smoothly integrated.

Firstly, as previously mentioned – out of sight, out of mind! Maybe you want to keep your pet’s belongings in their own dedicated space out of the way. If you don’t want them on display, time to clear out that closet! Secondly, make your pet’s stuff a part of your vibe! There are so many ways you can maintain organization with a fun flair, even in a tiny space. Let’s discuss some of my personal favorites.

A Fashionable Pet Crate

Recently, I was at my friend’s house and noticed her old wired crate broken down – huh, wonder if Theo now has free reign… Nope! Imagine my surprise when I realized her end table was actually a stylish, multipurpose crate! There are plenty of options out there (and even some DIYs) to consider for a hip and space-efficient bed or kennel.

Cute Toy Storage

My favorite toy storage is one that compliments the space. This is your furry friend’s home, too! I adore a wicker basket that is bone-shaped. Previously carried by Costco, this is a popular one, available on Amazon or even Etsy for some increased customization! There are plenty of other sizes and shapes for pet toy storage. From bins to baskets, the fit for you is out there.

Outdoor Gear

If you are looking to store a leash, consider complimenting your key storage. There is nothing I love more (especially in a small space) than a cute entry nook. Hanging up your keys feels so official, so adult! Maybe it is time to have a little space for your pet’s stuff to go, too.

The Cutest Cat Trees

I have a bit of a far-fetched wish-list item. Have you seen those super stylish cat trees that look like flowers? I love a whimsical space – flowers, mushrooms, plants. There is no shortage of stunning (and expensive) trees out there for the fashionable cat owner.

Making Do

Maybe, like me, the stylish cat tree worth hundreds of dollars is out of budget. That is okay! Maybe you don’t need to buy a bunch of new stuff just to organize the stuff you already have! It is all about your mindset.

Instead of feeling like your space, your pet’s belongings, or your organization “isn’t enough,” maybe you make peace with what it is for right now! A future DIY project could be on your list. It is all about making do with what you have – you and your pet can be happy no matter what!
